Omani 'Tourist' robbed while with an underage Thai prostitute

Busy week. But thankfully the Dragon is off to an undisclosed European location this weekend for a well deserved holiday. And as Mr Muscato noted, no response from the Blue City people on the recent further downgrading of Blue City bonds on the expected default - perhaps 'John' (a previous commenter and Blue City supporter and probable employee) wasn't too happy to learn they had difficulty paying his salary last month!

Meanwhile, as we all know, it is the holiday season, and there is unfortunately a huge sex tourism trade between Oman and Thailand. Lots of Omani males go to Thailand, many of them married, and not for the temples and beaches. How much AIDS is being imported back to Oman from these people having unprotected sex? Plus, of course, the direct support being provided for the horrible trade in flesh. As far as I know, Oman have not made it illegal for Omani's to go overseas and have sex with minors either.

One 'vacationing' Omani gentleman, alledgedly a Mr. Sulaiman Saifthani, was reported in the Thai press yesterday as being drugged and robbed by an underage prostitute in his hotel room. Shame.

Perhaps the bigger shame was travelling halfway around the world to have sex with 15 yr old girls...

Omani tourist drugged and robbed.

Pattaya police station received a visit from Mr. Sulaiman Saifthani to report that he had just been drugged and robbed of his possessions by a beach prostitute.

Photo Pattaya People News: Thai Police taking a complaint.

The incident happened on the evening of the 21st July when the 41 year old tourist from Oman took a woman to his room for fun and games. In all the excitement, she somehow managed to drug him with some substance causing him to fall unconscious, only to wake up to find that his wallet containing 9,020 US dollars, 8,000 baht and an expensive wrist watch valued at 30,000 baht were all missing. After searching through the criminal record file, he identified his perpetrator as Miss Thanya Kongpira, aged 15 from Khon Kaen in North East Thailand. A report was made and a search is now on for the young lady from Esarn.

I'm hoping that as well as taking his complaint of robbery, that they also busted him for having "fun and games" with an underage minor...

  1. Who in their right mind keeps 9,000 USD in their wallets??? Does the word plastic money mean anything to them???

  2. I must have missed that when I read the Times. I've no doubt old uncle Essa will say she was put up to by Jews!

  3. I'm a little bit curious about this guy's name. Newspaper listed it as Sulaiman Saifthani, but if it is changed to usual Arabic style it would be Sulaiman Saif (Al) Thani. Al Thani is the Royal Family of Qatar. I have never heard of a Saifthani family in Oman or an Al Thani family in Oman either. Maybe some Omanis could help with the name. Abd

  4. I have seen one or two Al Thani on the duty rosters in the military here IIRC.

Either way, if this scrote is not banged up on child sex charges, then something is seriously wrong with how the Thais are operating.
Normally, they are pretty ruthless when it comes to stamping out paedophelia......however, it all depends on what the age of consent is there.

  5. There is agreements between countries but no many people know this (Gary Glitter didn't!!!). If Oman is to pride its-self on it's justice then something will be done, not just about this man but as an example to the multitude who travel for the same reasons but know they won't get caught.

Apparantly he disguised his name as an Irishman...Mr. P.D. O'Phile
Well done to the Thai authorities for name and shaming him. I look forward to reading it in the Week next week....perhaps!

  6. I'm underwhelmed by the amount of Omanis queuing up to condemn such a degrading act. Must be his crime was being outed!!!

  7. Old and young Thai girls all look the same and it is quite possible that Mr Thani didn't realise that the girl is a minor.

  8. justcurious...thats a pathetic excuse for a post. He knew what he was doing like the many before him. And if he didn't ignorance is no excuse.

  9. I just wonder if the Omani authorities will ever do something to Mr. Suliman for what seems to be a crime in many civilized nations. It is sick what these people do. And it is even more sick for the government not to act.

  10. Chapter10 and others- I am not a lawyer, but how can a country punish one of its citizens for a 'crime' committed in another country? The offense happened in Thailand, it should be up to the Thai legal system to try and punish him if he is guilty. And as for controlling the sex trade from here, do you want the ROP to question each man leaving Oman as to the 'purpose' of his leave? Do you want each of us to sign a paper promising not to screw an underage girl. C'mon, get real. Abd

  11. Abdullah, an offence is an offence, crime is crime and the UK is one of many countries that has an agreement with thailand over such crimes, as well as drugs. Only a few months ago two Paedophiles were caught in thailand and did time in UK.

If this man had bought or sold drugs in Thailand would the Omani authorities turn a blind eye?

  12. Oman and Thailand do have extradition agreements for their citizens, so the guy can be sent if he is charged. That's a pretty big IF coz legally he has to assure the cops/court that she indeed was (i) underage and (ii) they were going to have sex. Since (i) I don't think he's going to try and convince anyone on that and (ii) She's a known criminal and (iii) he (and his countrymen) carries around a lot of money and spends it in Thailand, there's a fat chance of him getting booked.

  13. Abd,

Its been the case for many years that places like the UK or Australia made it a crime in their own countries for people - esp. their citizens - to go to other countries and have sex with children.

Yes, hard to prosecute, or get evidence, but it did help stop the organised paedophile tours, and made it much riskier for them to go to Thailand and have sex with kids.

Oman could easily pass a similar law consistent with Oman's professed civil morality. The problem is a typically Omani one, in that passing such a law would ipso facto publically acknowledge that Omani's are doing such things.

  14. DA, FK, UD- First let me say that I consider exploitation of children, sexual or otherwise, the most vile of crimes- and should carry the max punishment. I also think it is the responsiblilty of the gov't of each country to prevent the abuse of its children. If a man travels to Thailand and has sex with a child, it is up to the Thai authorities to try and punish him. Sending him back to a UK jail as opposed to a Thai prison would be doing the guy a favor.

UD- if a travel agent in Oman advertises a 'sex tour' in Asia, yes, then it becomes the reponsibility of the Omani Govt to stop this to prevent a crime from happening. Abd

  15. Abdulla, that's the Ostrich mentality. Many countries collaborate as a crime is a crime and ultimately, police work is about crime prevention! Points were raised that relate to the crime but not the actual crime. UD has put it quite clearly when he said to punish would be to acknowledge the problems exists. That is the real point! By outing this man and punishing him it will send a message to the many others from Oman who do this. Its bad enough that rapes and sexual assaults happen here but no one ever hears about it unless they know a victim (and I know more than several).

If you think Oman has no responsibility here, morally or legally then you are incredibly naive. It is after all, Omans reputation that these people are tainting!

  16. DA- You make some good points and I may be incrediby naive, but this issue of moral and legal resonsiblity is one that sounds great when you are making speeches and writing letters, but is impossible to implement in the real world. I am for the fair and rigorous enforcement of the laws in each country by that country's police. And yes cooperation between countires would help, but the primary enforcement must be the responsiblity of the host country.

  17. Abdullah, if you knew a pervert, rapist, thief or drug dealer who committed a crime in another country, would you still work with him, talk to him, socialise with him in Oman even though he was not convicted in this country?
As I understand it, if he has been charged and found guilty in Thailand, he would not be allowed a visa for UK or USA. So, questions would need to be addressed in Oman as to why he or people like him have been banned from certain countries. Hypothetical question Abdullah...a man get a criminal record in Thailand. Oman does nothing. He works for a reputable company in Oman. They want to send him to UK or USA for training and they find out he has been refused a visa. What do you do?

    ReplyDelete
  18. DA- I think we are walking parallel paths, not the same path. However-

To answer your first paragraph- If the man molested a child, I would probably try to kill him. A drug dealer, if he sold to children, yes- execute him. A pervert, I would kick in the balls, if he had any. The direct answer is Yes I would avoid these people.

In answer to your question "What do you do? (if he doen't get a visa)- you don't send him. Once you make a mistake like that, you pay for it for the rest of your life.

DA- you said "a man gets a criminal record in Thailand. Oman does nothing." What do you want the Omani Gov't to do? Abd

    ReplyDelete
  19. Abdullah, I accept your points and I was stretching it a bit.
What would I like the Omani Govt to do? Let the press report it for a start. Acknowledge that this happens with embarrassing regularity.

    ReplyDelete
  20. DA- I agree with you. Let me tell a true story.

I was working in large govt oil company with a mostly Omani maint team. One day, an Omani, who was a bit 'rowdy' announced he was going to Umrah in Mecca. We were all impressed and happy and 'hugged and kissed' him good-bye, wishing him a meaningful trip.

A few days later, we received word that this same 'pilgrim' suffered a mild heart attack while humping some whore in Bangkok. Needless to say, the negative publicity had more of an effect on him than any jail time. Abd

  21. Disgusting! if he gets convicted, now hope the Omani embassy doesn't intervene.

    Some other news:
Pakistan reckons Oman is intervening in Balochistan.

  22. Abdullah, maybe he was gathering his sins as they were going to get washed anyway!!

DA, to start getting usch items printed and to get what you are aiming for, requires things that are not yet weaved in the basic fabric of the governing politic of this country. Places where this has happened, getting the media is only a matter of time, but where this has not happened, given enough time... nothing is going to happen. An overused clique, but the change needs to come from the "grass roots level".

e.g. Please someone buy the ToOman and fire all of the exisitng management.

  29. Interesting thread guys. I'm looking forward to the day (won't be in my life time) that hypocrisy stops and people get real. When this happens these kind of shady situations will happen less and maybe these psychologically unbalanced individuals that exist in society may get the help they need before they go off ducking and diving and committing sick acts, get ripped off, killed etc - therefore continuing the dysfunctional cycle that is toxic and never ending.
